Bobby Shmurda, New York’s “supposed” Hip Hop savior, known for his
I don’t know how the shit was/is a hit “Hot Nigga” and, the accompanying vine favorite, “Shmoney Dance” and his GS9 Crip gang have all been arrested on a range of charges including murder, attempted murder, assault and drug dealing.
A rapper being arrested for the supposed thug lifestyle they portray on record is nothing new. What separates Shmurda and crew is the fact that he was being hailed as the one to bring New York Hip Hop back. After years of watching the South continue its strangle hold on Hip Hop some were glad of the attention “Hot Nigga” generated.
In my opinion, I don’t see what all the fuss was about. While I understand the need and want for New York to reclaim its dominance I think they could/should rally around someone that actually has skills.
I remember the same fuss was being made about Chief Keef a couple years ago and to me that nigga sound like Migos reading “The Cat in the Hat”. Not only is he wack lyrically, he raps off beat, and he looks like Whoopi Goldberg from Jumpin Jack Flash.
But staying on topic, Shurmda is another rapper in the long lines of rappers that live out their Scarface, Al Capone fantasies on record. Then, as soon as they get popped they want to claim that there lyrics “are just entertainment”. Except it appears that Shmurda and his GS9 gang may be the real deal, as far as gangsta rappers go.
With the charges they are facing, they are either the greatest actors, retroactively building street cred. Or they are really about that life. Either way, this is a case of when keeping it real goes wrong.
Again a rapper being arrested is nothing new, but with being slapped with a $2 million bail bond, it appears that Shmurda and company won’t be doing the “Shmoney Dance” too far from New York.
Talk to me, I’ll talk back.
