Question Of The Day?

What is your take on The Onion calling 9-year-old Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis, “C” word in a tweet Sunday night during the Oscars? The tweet was taken down and an apology has since been issued but the damage has already been done.

Talk to me, I’ll talk back.

Breazy.

  1. I was in a discussion about this very topic yesterday. Calling young Miss Wallis a cunt is just trifling, on all levels. There’s no way she deserves that. Someone mentioned her family needed to sue The Onion. I doubt her folks would do that, but I could see them asking for a formal apology from the organization, as well as the actual person who tweeted that garbage.

The ease in which the person made the remark speaks to the valueless way this country thinks of young girls of color…and grown women as well. The thinking has to be changed if society is to change.

    1. You know what, people’s opinion’s don’t surprise me anymore, I actually respect them because at least I know where the person is coming from. Having said that forgt the fact that she is a child, she didn’t do anything but act in a movie that allowed her to be nominated for an award like any other actress. How can that be cause to call any actress a cunt? I agree I am shocked at how at ease the writer used that term, almost like it was nothing, and then to say “I’m sorry it needs to be said” as if this was something that has been building up for a long time makes me think that the writer just doesn’t like her.
IMO this was racially movitated, I don’t remember Dakota Fanning being called a cunt at the same age or any other white child actor.
I agee the thinking has to change and we have to start holding these people accountable.

  2. Totally out of line. From my understanding the Onion is notorious for being satirical but so what? In some circles to be called a cunt is worse than the B word. I’m not above believing it was not only sexist but racist and to address a child in that manner disgusts me.
