My Favorite Things.

I have to admit, I am a big (not big as in width but big as in height, I’m 6’2, 172 lbs) kid when it comes to Christmas time, and you can blame it on my grandparents.  You see, my mother’s birthday is December 25th –  that’s right THAT December 25th – and as long as I can remember, my mother has been a fanatic, stan, stalker, insane, obsessed, well you get the idea, with the holiday season and particularly Christmas time.

If you buy me this damn sweater, I swear before God there's going to be some furniture moving.

In my house it was almost a crime to not be in the Christmas mood/spirit. Our house was normally decorated by Thanksgiving with the Christmas tree being the last thing and we normally got one around the time of the Heisman trophy ceremony. The house smelled like winter potpourri (I think by now you are aware of my fondness for potpourri), eggnog (straight up since I wasn’t able to Edgar Allen “Poe” up yet) flowed while Christmas songs were played more than Gucci Mane going to jail.  And because of these and other happy memories, I can say that Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. So here it is, yup you guessed it, (another) list this time of my favorite holiday things.

Snow.

I’m from Colorado and yes I do ski; so despite being born in June, snow is in my DNA. Also I’m sorry, but what the DMV called Snowmegeddon two years ago, we called Monday.  Hell, Colorado got a foot of snow just yesterday.

Christmas Songs.

Ever since I could remember, and before I found Hip Hop, I was groovin’ to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Silent Night sung by the OG’s, The Temptations.

Christmas Lights.

I just think that a house looks better during the holiday season with christmas lights.

Wrapping gifts.

When I became old enough to drink, there wasn’t anything like wrapping gifts, playing spades, dominoes and drinking a winter cocktail consisting of something 100 proof.

Opening gifts.

Self explanatory.

Cold Weather.

If you are a player or just have trouble meeting women in general, you have to love the cold weather.  What better excuse  to “snuggle” up with someone than to keep them warm?

Holiday specials.

If you are in your mid 30’s like me or older than you probably grew up watching  A Charlie Thanksgiving/Christmas, The Grinch That Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and so forth.  Then you also know that when these shows come on now, you break your neck to catch them.

Eggnog.

I love eggnog and can’t get enough of it. I always wondered why is it only sold in stores around the Holiday time?  I can drink it plain or with Bacardi Dark, Gold or Oak Spice, it doesn’t matter to me.

Spending time with family.

My parents live in Atlanta, and ever since I moved to Maryland I don’t get to see them as much as I would like.  Mrs. Breazy and I are driving down for the Christmas week and are looking forward to it. Also since I finished high school there I have a lot of friends and I am literally going to show my arse next week being back in comfortable surroundings.

Last but not least, celebrating our Savior’s birth.

Again, I am not trying to force my beliefs on anybody, but for me the only reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ.  I may not keep too many commandments, but I try not to break too many either.

Well that’s all I can think of right now. What are some your favorite things or fond memories of the holiday season?

Talk to me, I’ll talk back.

  1. The egg nog, Christmas specials, Christmas lights and family time are all I really look forward too. As I’ve gotten older, and being from Maryland, I go riding around different neighborhoods now looking at Christmas lights. I’ll just say, folks in Annapolis know how to decorate.

    1. I use to drive around to look at Christmas decorations but guess got to high (lol) I think before I go out of town this weekend I just might. I hope that you have a good holiday and a happy New Years.
